Women Make a Difference

[O.W.W.L. Success Tip] Are you emotionally irresponsible? How do you know?

Many of my clients and O. W. L. Certified Coaches didn’t really understand the role emotions have on their lives, including wealth, weight, and leadership. They either feel emotions deeply, which distracts them from their goals, or they don’t feel them at all. Either way is not a powerful, responsible strategy.

Mother TeresaMother Teresa once said, “Let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.”

This is a perfect example of being emotionally responsible. Mother Teresa knew what science is now proving: our emotions literally change our world and impact those around us either positively and/or negatively.

Leaders’ emotions drive their team and actually impact employee morale, job satisfaction and productivity. In recent studies, it has been proven that our emotions are contagious. Just like the flu, we can catch another persons stress, negativity and/or happiness.

According to studies conducted by Dr. Paul Ekman, universal emotions like surprise, fear, happiness, disgust, contempt and sadness are found in all cultures and nationalities, and are detectable even when a person is attempting to conceal them. They are transferred to others through our facial expressions, body language, postures, and voices.

Emotions not only can be transferred through personal contact, they are also finding them being transferred through social media. In a collaborative Facebook study with Cornell University, UC San Francisco and Facebook, it was found that people exposed to positive or negative posts on FB, would follow suit with a positive or a negative post, depending on what they saw. The effect of the posts would last about a week with them continuing to post positive or negative posts depending on what they had been exposed too.

You have probably experienced this in your family, at work, or being involved with people anywhere. Some people come in and are a beam of light; others come in and suck the air out of the room with their cloud of negativity. The big question is: Who are you? How do you show up? Do people love seeing you show up, or are they secretly dreading your appearance?

These are some difficult questions and often not ones you want to know the answer to. However, awareness is the key to change. Being an authentic leader requires you to know yourself and your impact on others.

We are all called to be kind, civil, and respectful. One way to develop this quality is through Loving-Kindness Meditation. This meditation focuses your attention on actually being the light or being loving and kind in the world.

One practice is to daily sit quietly, take some deep breaths, and offer thoughts of loving/kindness to you, others and to all humanity everywhere. Do this for about 5 minutes daily and see your life and the impact you have on others transform.

Sending you loving kindness,

[O.W.W.L. Success Tip] You’re not finished with 2014 yet!

23096002_sHappy New Year!  But wait.  You are not finished with 2014 until you have let go of any bad vibes or energy concerning what you did or did not do.  Completion is a powerful ontological tool. The energy of being complete frees us up to step powerfully into what’s next. For this reason, we MUST be complete with 2014, what we did do or what we didn’t do, so that we don’t hold ourselves back in 2015 due to incompletion hanging over us from the prior year.

Below I have included same questions I offer my clients so that you can really acknowledge what you have done this year, create your celebrations, and design what is next for you in 2015.  Powerful stuff to spring forward into 2015!

Janis’ Year-End Completion Exercise:

  1. List all the categories for which you want to do completion.  (E.g. work, family, money, health, career, each coaching project, etc.)
  2. For each category, list all your accomplishments & progress, big and small.
  3. If you have a “yes, but…” regarding Incompleteness as you write your accomplishment list, start a separate list for those and get back to them later. (E.g. I lost 10 pounds, but I didn’t lose 20.)
  4. Read back your accomplishment list and “be with” it.  Take it in; savor it; relish!
  5. Choose some rewards and/or celebrations for all you have done and been in 2014.   Enjoy planning, scheduling, and creating the celebrations.
  6. Look at the incomplete list and make declarations about them.  (E.g. “I will put this in a new project design for 2015” or “I am satisfied with my progress on this and declare it to be complete.”
  7. Create/design new intentions and projects for 2015.

Happy Prosperous New Year!

[My OWWL Journey] Update on my granddaughter

supportThank you to all of you who have sent support after my post of 12/04/14 on my granddaughter and our deep sorrow in learning that she is cutting herself. I had no idea how prevalent this was and how many of you had personal experience with this! I also appreciate the resources you have offered, and the hope that this will get better with therapy.

Here is the update: After much soul-searching, my husband and I offered for my granddaughter to live with us. She declined and instead decided to move back home with her mom. She is looking for a new therapist closer to home and is on an anti-depressant medication. I have been researching all I can about this disorder and have requested that the whole family get therapy in addition to her. I know that for myself, coaching and therapy have been invaluable for me to let go of wounds of the past and embrace wholeness.

With gratitude for your support and loving thoughts,

Success Story:

“I knew how to eat right and exercise, but I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t do it and lose weight! I was exhausted from trying every diet or exercise program and always starting again with a different program tomorrow, or next week or after the holidays. I was so ready to lose weight and get my life back when I met Janis! Janis’ Ontological Weight Loss Program was exactly what I needed. She understands what is going on beneath the eating and she truly believes in her clients. I have lost over 40 pounds with the Ontological Weight Loss Program, and I’ve kept it off for over a year! Her program is what every other diet or exercise program needs to work for the long run. I would recommend Janis to anyone who wants to lose weight, find a fulfilling career or make any changes to better their lives. She has a gift and has given me more than I ever expected!”

[OWWL Journey] Celebration and Gratitude of Life – Yours and Mine!

thanksgiving_0Do you know that one of the things which holds us back from reaching our goals with speed and power is the lack of celebration and gratitude? If we are always stressed out about not doing enough, accomplishing enough, or having enough, then we haven’t been celebrating enough! If we focus on what’s wrong instead of being thankful for our blessings, then we negate our blessings.

What will you celebrate today? What are you grateful for today? I am grateful for my life, my health, my husband, my family, my friends, and my coaching clients. I am grateful for living in this country and having a purposeful career. I am grateful that you are reading my posts.

We can always find what’s wrong and what doesn’t work. Today find what’s right and what does work!

With gratitude and celebration for my life,

[O.W.W.L. Success Tip] Are you following Fabulous and Fat-Free Forever principles in all areas of your life, even if you’re not overweight?

yoga-phrasesAs an Ontological Coach I was divinely-inspired in 2008 to create the “Ontological Weight Loss (O.W.L.): Your Once in a Lifetime Solution” programs, workshops, and books which address the nine sabotage patterns I have identified and how to shift them permanently. (Ontology is the study of the being of a human being, including conscious and subconscious behavior patterns.)

The sabotage patterns for weight loss are also applicable for other areas of your life: money, career, relationships, hobbies, etc. You may be running some or all of the sabotage patterns and don’t even know it. Some examples of sabotages that may be affecting one or more areas of your life are “Playing Small,” “Sacrifice & Entitlement,” and “Unmet Needs/Unexpressed Emotions.” I am giving a talk next week in Albuquerque to address some of these.

Ways to shift your sabotages: You may start to immediately identify your own sabotage patterns just by being present and aware. How do you hold yourself back? Where do you get off track? What is underneath that?

Once you know what you’re doing, an easy way to shift sabotages can begin with doing just the opposite. This method is simple enough, but it is often difficult to do without guidance, unless you have someone you trust to help you through the process. We don’t always recognize our own “stuff.”

Another way to learn to shift sabotages is by attending my talk, even if you don’t have a weight problem. In the interactive, engaging presentation (see below) taken from my signature O.W.L. methodology you will learn 3 secrets you can use immediately in order to stay fit, slim, and energetic forever. These 3 tips introduce you to the sabotage patterns that affect ALL AREAS of our lives, not just weight.

Fabulous and Fat-Free Forever

3 Secrets to not only getting fit, slim, & energetic…but also staying that way.

We even have a home study course which highlights the patterns. These programs are the best way to get out of sabotages you don’t even know you have!
