[O.W.W.L. Success Tip] Pain-free networking
I was the keynote speaker for Women Make a Difference networking luncheon last Friday and spoke on “The Weight of Money: 3 secretes to melting debt, fat, and stress NOW!” We had about 90 people in attendance. As I prepared for this event, I noticed how differently I approach networking and marketing events now compared to a few years ago. Previously, these events stirred up stress and anxiety. I was shy and lacked confidence. I was vague and confusing when sharing what I do. I talked with as many people as possible, tried to convince people they needed me, and had few or no prospective clients to show for it. I was exhausted when it was over, due to the anxiety. Since then, I have shifted my perspective and my actions, so networking/marketing events are now fun, easy, and productive!
[O.W.W.L. Success Tip] Approach every interaction with people from a mindset of “curiosity and discovery” and becoming visible.
Adopt a mindset that your prospective clients are already looking for you. They want what you offer and are willing to pay what you ask. You just don’t know who they are yet, but they are your “tribe.” So you get out there and meet people. You are curious. You ask silently, “Are you the one?” No? “Are you the one?” You don’t worry about those who are not your tribe; you continue being open to the discovery of who is. Most of all, you relax and have fun.
Summary: Pain-free networking involves four steps:
- Show up,
- Be curious & ask questions,
- Discover your tribe,
- Have fun
To your success and prosperity,
