[O.W.W.L. Success Tip] What is your relationship to Jealousy?

jealousy_scrabbleAs you may have read, my spring and summer months helped me to reinvent and recharge myself. One of the things I did was to release people, things, and energies that did not support or serve me. One of these includes jealousy of others regarding what I did do or didn’t do that they had handled and I didn’t. I got help from this from a mentor, who taught me this:

Jealousy Tips:

  1. Feeling Jealous Means You’re Ready To Become A New, Higher Version Of Yourself
  2. Jealousy Can’t Grow In A Garden Of Gratitude
  3. Jealousy Is A Mirror For Where You’ve Been Afraid To Grow
  4. Stop Telling Your Old Tale…It’s Time To Tell A New Story Of Success

Success Story

My name is Blair Boyer and I am the VP of Professional Development for HRMA of NM. Janis was gracious enough to volunteer her time and knowledge to facilitate a wonderful presentation to our local chapter titled, “Authentic Leadership: Secrets to Effective Human Resource Management”. Using a wonderful mix of knowledge, wisdom and humor, Janis delivered an engaging and educational presentation. I would highly recommend Janis as a speaker and look forward to potentially utilizing her skills again for our chapter.

[O.W.W.L. Success Tip Update] Reports of Janis’ death have been greatly exaggerated!

webPullen-19x200It’s been exactly three months since I wrote Ontological Wealth, Weight, and Leadership [O.W.W.L.] Success Tips, My Current Journey posts, or guest blog articles. Some loyal readers in my community have wondered what happened to me, especially since we had been consistently contributing weekly O.W.L. Success Tips for six years and weekly Current Journey blog posts for three and a half years.

Long story short, we took a break from posting this summer in order to renew and reorganize both personally and businesswise. We had personal challenges this year, which were really blessings in disguise. I believe the dark night of the soul can be a camouflage for the “breakdown before the breakthrough.” We have had quite a few of these!

Instead of showering you with “what happened,” I share highlights of our business wins this year and what to expect:

  • Our book, Lose Weight for Life: 9 Unconscious Reasons You Can’t Keep the Weight Off…and What to do About It, debuted in May on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle editions, after a being a dream for several years. The companion workbook is in progress and should be ready in another month.
  • Our coaching business reached its 10-year anniversary in April.
  • Our second annual program of O.W.L. Certified weight loss coaches graduated in March, and our third one – 2015 Certification and Training Program – begins in September.
  • We moved our business into the organizational wellness realm and will be contributing that all-important ontological perspective to companies who have only been focusing on diet and exercise in the past.
  • Our Business Builder Support Group began in April, with requests to begin a second.
  • “Build Your Power Base” talks and book signings for professional groups, private groups, and book stores have been and are being scheduled.
  • We have resumed our Ontological Weight Loss 9-Week Quick Start Groups for those who want to learn how to take off the weight and keep it off forever.
  • Our Advanced Wealth and Leadership Coach Training begins in February 2015.

I am hosting a party in my home this Saturday to celebrate our 10-year business anniversary and the new book, along with the other wins for our business. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Support@JanisPullen.com, and we’ll send you the details.

Thank you to our team, clients, colleagues, friends, and family for all the blessings and support they have provided and will provide.

[Guest Blogger] Developing a Spiritual Life

WorshipRecovering from a serious illness or a profound life event can be a time of confusion and uncertainty when every suppressed emotion rises up to tear us down. Choosing to include a spiritual side to your life may feel overwhelming, but at the same time we know that a spiritual life is a worthwhile choice. We may wonder about the practicality of it. How can we live spiritually when everything around us is based on the material world?

Although personal and spiritual growth comes from within, most people appreciate the friendship, support and companionship of belonging to a religious affiliation or spiritual center. Through a spiritual relationship with a higher power, you will feel good about yourself and discover the peace and joy of abundant living. Spirituality can provide you with a foundation to go back to no matter what happens in your life. Furthermore, the power of prayer helps us experience a stronger connection with God every day.

Mindfulness

As you begin to create your new life, consider building a foundation for your spiritual self. Be mindful of what you are doing and of where you put your attention. Mindfulness helps us stay connected to our priorities. What brings us peace and joy is the foundation of our inner priorities: being spiritual lead, speaking our truth, and treating others with loving kindness. You will find that your inner priorities are more important than your outer priorities. Treat yourself with compassion when you fall down on your priorities.

Daily devotions

The Joy of Loving: A Guide to Daily Living consists of messages written by Mother Teresa and compiled by Jaya Chalika and Edward Le Joly. This guide for daily spiritual living includes messages for each calendar day and is useful to both the believer and the nonbeliever. The authors write…

“Mother Teresa speaks as the conscience of the world. She is a lighthouse for believers, sending rays of light that show the way in semi-darkness. And to nonbelievers in God, she is an anchor steadying their ship in rough waters.”

An easy way to get started is to begin each day, by opening this book and reading an inspirational message from Mother Teresa.

Ministry groups, retreats, broadcasts, podcasts and Apps

Consider meeting with the pastor or the spiritual leader of your local church if you have questions about how to proceed with your spiritual journey. There are many ministry groups, retreats and bible studies in your local community that can offer you the opportunity to make caring friendships with like-minded individuals.

You may also develop yourself spiritually through books, music, broadcasts, podcasts, blogs, Apps and tours of your favorite spiritual leader. Unique Daily Affirmations, a downloadable App for your cell phone, may keep you inspired to continue on your path to positive living. Let your curiosity lead you on your spiritual path. Reach out and connect with others as you explore your spiritual self.

[O.W.W.L. Success Tip] What vital element might be missing from your communication style?

In last week’s Thursday O.W.W.L. Journey blog post, guest author and client Megan Feldman wrote a great personal experience which reminded me of a most important element in human relationships.

O.W.W.L. Success Tip: Substitute defense with compassion in uncomfortable communications. (Click to Tweet)

communicationWhen we have uncomfortable relationships or disagreements, the first thing we might do is to protect and defend ourselves. We rationalize, make excuses, or make the other person wrong. When we are hurt or angered, it’s hard to do otherwise.

However, a more empowering approach is to access our compassionate side, the higher self who sees both sides of the situation. Compassion brings us together and allows a greater understanding with-out the fear that we or they are not enough.

What would you have to let go of in order to be compassionate with others? What would you have to embrace to be compassionate with yourself? Why not practice compassion this week?

[O.W.W.L. Success Tip] Which Pillar of Success is missing from your leadership?

GrowI have written previously about the two pillars of success for any endeavor. I featured one of these in last Thursday’s blog post with an article written by client and colleague Gale O’Brien. She knows this first-hand, as she is a cancer survivor and health advocate.

O.W.W.L. Success Tip: To attain ultimate success in any endeavor, you must have 90% or above in the two Pillars of Success.

The first pillar of success is Well-Being, as Gale’s article discusses. In leadership, we call this Leader Care with a daily practice of doing things that regenerate, renew, and resource you.

The second pillar of success is integrity, which means being whole and complete – no parts broken. High integrity means doing things from commitment, inspiration, and because you said you would. Keeping your promises to yourself and others is a hallmark of a great leader.

Are you at 100% in both of these? If not, what can you do today to move in that direction?
