[Current O.W.W.L. Journey] I have been feeling trapped

Last weekend we had 14 inches of snow in 2 days. I know this doesn’t compare to the weather back east, but since I live at the bottom of a very steep, long driveway in the mountains, I felt trapped. To make matters worse, the snow plow for the road didn’t arrive until later in the day, even if I could have escaped my driveway. The main problem was that the snow storm came on my only day off when I had fun things to do that had to be rescheduled, including a massage.

Trapped…that’s a word that many of us have used for other circumstances than snow…trapped in a relationship, trapped in a financial situation, trapped in a job, trapped in a body you don’t love, etc. It occurs this way for me when I think I don’t have options or choice. What makes you feel trapped?

I realized that I do have options regarding this snow. I can sell my house and move to town. I can watch the weather report and stay in a motel or with a friend if snow is imminent. I can reschedule my time so that I have a day off during the week when the snow has melted.

So I shifted the experience of feeling trapped to an experience of having the opportunity to be creative and change my context. We surely do need the moisture for our parched forests, after all!

[Current O.W.W.L. Journey] Thank you to my supporters

bearsThe past two weeks have been instrumental in getting revitalized after some stressful months. I have been blessed and honored to have many people in my fan club, including my husband, my 2015 Mastery Coach sisters, my Girls’ Night Out ladies, my local and out-of-state friends and colleagues, my mentor coaches, my Facebook friends, my sister, and countless others.

One of the O.W.W.L. Sabotage patterns that will be included in my forthcoming book (sent to the editor last night) is “Separate, Alone, Hard.” I find in my life that “Connection, Partnering, and Support” really make a big difference in having an empowering life.

To whom do you turn for support and help? I’d love to hear from you here.

[Current OWWL Journey] Taking a sabbatical and good news!

post_it_note_sabbaticalYou may have read on Tuesday about the “poop filter,” and how it messes up communication. So when my daughter said, “I don’t want your help; I just want to be left alone,” my friend Kathy told me about the filter and reminded me to not take it personally.

So in deference to my dear daughter, I am taking a sabbatical from “helping” her. This is rough on me, as a natural nurturer. But I love her and choose to heed her wishes.

So I’m taking a short sabbatical…a couple of weeks of no contact via phone or text. I’m also taking exquisite personal self-care in the meantime: more sleep, good nutrition and exercise, being with friends, and attending a training conference with my girlfriend/colleagues.

Good News! My book manuscript is now ready for production! This is a project of the heart that has finally come to fruition. I’ll let you know when it is in print. In the meantime, what title do you prefer, or do you have another idea? Leave your suggestions below…

  1. Lose Weight for Life: 9 Unconscious Reasons You Can’t Keep Your Weight Off and What to Do About It
  2. The Missing Ingredient: When Exercise and Diet Aren’t Enough to Keep Your Weight Off
  3. Fat Between The Ears: Shifting Sabotage Patterns so Weight Loss is Never a Problem Again

Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts on the title, and thank you to all who are supporting me personally and professionally.

[Guest Blog] What’s the Buzz About Essential Oils?

Essential OilsHave you been wondering what all the buzz is about essential oils? Would you like to stop catching every cold that’s going around, instantly relieve a headache, calm hyperactivity and stress, or diminish depression without using synthetic chemicals?

Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, and flowers of plants. Their role is to protect plants from bacteria and fungus, deter insects, and slow decay. To extract the essential oil, plant material is steam distilled at exact temperature and pressure. The resulting essential oil contains powerful properties.

Essential oils have a long history of use for health, wellness and beauty. They contain hundreds of healing compounds in just a single drop. They also contain antibacterial, anti-fungal, antispasmodic, and antiseptic qualities.

Essential Oil Quality Grades

Not all essential oils are created equal. Ninety five percent of all essential oils are created for the food and cosmetic industries. These oils do not contain the healing power of nature. There are four distinct grades of essential oils:

  • Synthetic Grade: These oils are used for perfumes, candles, and cleaning products. Most often these fragrances are made from synthetic ingredients in a laboratory. They do not contain healing compounds.
  • Food Grade: These oils are created for the food industry for use in mouthwash, chewing gum, mints, and candy, etc. These oils are most often created in a laboratory of synthetic ingredients.
  • Therapeutic Grade: These oils contain hundreds of healing compounds in each drop. They are properly distilled and properly packaged. They are pure and contain no fillers. They can affect the body for change through oxygenation, cleansing, calming, and focus. Once you have secured high quality, therapeutic grade essential oils, there are many ways to use them on a daily basis for improving body, mind, and spirit.
  • CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® essential oils are 100% pure natural aromatic compounds carefully extracted from plants. They do not contain fillers or artificial ingredients that would dilute their active qualities. Proper extraction and quality control methods also ensure that essential oils are free of any contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides or other chemical residues.

Daily Uses for Essential Oils

Certified pure essential oils can be used aromatically, topically, and internally to:

  • Improve sleep
  • Reduce aches and pains
  • Relieve nausea and upset stomach
  • Enhance beautiful skin and diminish scars
  • Cleanse mouth and teeth naturally
  • Replace chemically toxic household cleaners
  • Relieve earaches
  • Reduce stress
  • Assist with natural weight loss management
  • Improve moods
  • Sooth cuts and scrapes
  • Repel bugs
  • Relieve allergies
  • Replace dry seasonings and spices in recipes

Essential oils for fast, effective relief of ailments

Still not convinced to make the switch to using essential oils for your medical ailments? JAMA Internal Medicine recently published the report “Cumulative Use of Strong Anticholinergic Medications and Incident Dementia.” This study used more rigorous methods, longer follow-up (more than seven years), and better assessment of medication use via pharmacy records (including substantial nonprescription use) to confirm a higher dementia risk linked to more use of common drugs such as Benadryl, Claritin, Prozac and many more. [Current OWWL Journey] Balancing work and family

Balancing-work-and-familyWhen I realized things were in turmoil with my girls in November, my first response was to drop everything and focus on them – finding therapists, holding family meetings, and doing research on the condition. My business was doomed to take a back seat. Work/family balance did not an seem to be an option.

However, with the strong coaching of my mentors, I realized this was not an “either/or” decision. It was a “both/and” decision. The opportunity to help people heal from within to be their most excellent selves is a daily occurrence within my business, so why couldn’t I also be building my business while helping my family heal?

I am happy to report that steady improvement continues to occur with my granddaughters and daughter. I am also happy to report that I remain committed to my business growth, my clients, and my self-care.

These circumstances have helped me grow in so many ways. Thank you for your support.
