[My OWWL Journey] Update on my granddaughter

supportThank you to all of you who have sent support after my post of 12/04/14 on my granddaughter and our deep sorrow in learning that she is cutting herself. I had no idea how prevalent this was and how many of you had personal experience with this! I also appreciate the resources you have offered, and the hope that this will get better with therapy.

Here is the update: After much soul-searching, my husband and I offered for my granddaughter to live with us. She declined and instead decided to move back home with her mom. She is looking for a new therapist closer to home and is on an anti-depressant medication. I have been researching all I can about this disorder and have requested that the whole family get therapy in addition to her. I know that for myself, coaching and therapy have been invaluable for me to let go of wounds of the past and embrace wholeness.

With gratitude for your support and loving thoughts,

P. S. My birthday was last Sunday. My dearest gift is my family. My second-dearest gift is my clientele. Please let me know how I may be of service to you. Contact me at Janis@JanisPullen.com.

Success Story:

“I knew how to eat right and exercise, but I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t do it and lose weight! I was exhausted from trying every diet or exercise program and always starting again with a different program tomorrow, or next week or after the holidays. I was so ready to lose weight and get my life back when I met Janis! Janis’ Ontological Weight Loss Program was exactly what I needed. She understands what is going on beneath the eating and she truly believes in her clients. I have lost over 40 pounds with the Ontological Weight Loss Program, and I’ve kept it off for over a year! Her program is what every other diet or exercise program needs to work for the long run. I would recommend Janis to anyone who wants to lose weight, find a fulfilling career or make any changes to better their lives. She has a gift and has given me more than I ever expected!”

[My OWWL Journey] Sharing a deep sorrow

13846369_sI want to share a deep sorrow from my personal life that I don’t know how to handle. I feel that it is important for you to know that as coaches, we have “life happens” all the time. Some of it is big like a divorce or death or child custody battles, and some of it is smaller like a new home or fear of filling a program, but either way, life happens. You all know this from your personal lives.

What we must do as coaches is to get the support we need and work through our emotions and breakdowns and keep going toward our commitment to ourselves. That is what I am doing now.

I set a very big goal for this month, and something has happened to derail me from that and from my commitment. I just learned last week that my granddaughter is in crisis and has been cutting herself on purpose. She has been living in another city with her father and stepmother, so I was not aware of all this. She came to visit my daughter last week and ended up in an ambulance and in a psychiatric ward. I learned that she has other dissociative behavior patterns too. I am sick with grief, both for her and for my daughter and my other granddaughter who found her on the floor in a pool of blood. As a coach and mom and grandma, I want to help. As the daughter of a mother who committed suicide, I am triggered. I have reached out to my client, who is a therapist, to help me understand all of this. I have also reached out to my husband and two of my dear friends to get the emotional support I need. I am crying on and off and being with the emotions as they come up. And I am still committed to my business and to my goals while I learn how to deal with this crisis.

So the reason I’m sharing (or oversharing maybe) is that I want you to know we don’t always have to have our lives perfect to be coaches. We don’t always have to know what to do to help people. All we have to do is to show up and be loving and compassionate and be committed to being the best we can be. As I write this to you, I am reminding myself to do that very thing: show up, be loving, be compassionate, and be committed to being the best I can be.

Please hold me and my family in your hearts with love.

Sincerely,

[Current O.W.W.L. Journey] Grief and living

beachwalking2Today is a day to reflect. I have been to the Hospice Ward at the local hospital twice. The first was with my friend Nancy who died of lung cancer 10 years ago. As I supported her through her death, she asked herself what she regretted having not done in her life and did she do what she came to do. Because of those questions, after her passing I asked myself those same questions. It was because of Nancy that I changed careers from C.P.A. and Senior Sales Director in Mary Kay to Life and Business Coach, helping people discover their magnificence and being a fierce stand for them getting the results they desire.

The second time I was in Hospice was this week. Our niece is dying of brain cancer, and we have had relatives staying with us who have come to say goodbye. She will leave behind two teenage boys and her husband and so many others who love her, including her parents and grandmother.

I am reminded that life is too short to be miserable and to be off purpose. I am reminded not to sweat the small stuff and that it’s all small stuff. I am reminded that each of us is a special gift to the world. If we remember that, we can give our gifts every day.

All we have is today. The regrets from our past don’t matter. The anxiety for the future doesn’t matter. What matters is our life, our health, and our love.

Wishing you peace, joy, and purpose,

[Success Tip] Does Lack of Trust Make Me Fat and Broke?

What does trust have to do with success? So many times, we who are control freaks, cynics, perfectionists, or people-pleasers carry too much physical weight and also the weight of money because of compulsive, obsessive behaviors, such as eating, spending, or working too hard, as we try to control everything.

These compulsions can come from lack of trust of us, others, or the Divine.

[Success Tip] Consider giving trust as a gift.

This week how about practicing trust as a gift?

Not because someone earned it, but because you chose to trust. Will you trust yourself in making a powerful decision or trusting your intuition? Will you trust your partner by asking for help? Will you trust God/higher power to handle what you cannot handle alone? Choosing to give trust expands your world. Greater success in any project is enhanced when you trust yourself, others, and the process.

As I mentioned last week, I have worked with many couples in business, relationship, and weight loss. The mutual support is incredible, especially when accountability and integrity are at stake, for instance in sticking to a food plan, exercise regimen, deadline, or budget. When we work with a buddy, we shift several unconscious sabotage patterns, including “Separate and Alone,” “Addiction to Suffering,” and “Playing Small.” Also the ability to celebrate milestones together makes it much more fun, which adds velocity to the process. But before we can fully appreciate the power of partnering, we have to be willing to trust the partner, ourselves, and the partnership.

Speaking of trusting a partner, if you and your partner are overweight and would like a proven Weight Loss Quick Start together, please visit http://www.owlweightloss.com/programs/couples-quick-start-program/ for details and registration information.

See the Success Story below for how partnership works for a couple trusting each other and doing their work together.
