[Guest Blogger] Why Are Superfoods Important?

Scientists have discover that certain foods, superfoods, are rich in essential fatty acids, antioxidants or fiber which are vital to building a healthy body and a strong immune system. These foods have also been proven to lower total cholesterol, lower blood pressure, help protect against heart disease and cancer, help regulate blood sugar levels and metabolism and burn body fat.

The process of converting your diet over from one of processed foods to one that contains mostly superfoods can be daunting. As long as you are clear in your head that you are committed to giving up your old ways of eating, then you will succeed by putting imaginary blinders on your eyes whenever you see junk food. Instead, your eyes will twinkle with delight when they see heaps of beautiful, farm fresh fruits and vegetables.

Below is the list of 10 superfood groups and their benefits:

  1. Olive Oil
Regularly consumption of olive oil can help lower total blood cholesterol, fights against diabetes, osteoporosis, and cancer, and decreases blood pressure levels. For those with dry skin, it’s an excellent way to cleanse your skin, as well.
  2. Garlic
Garlic lowers total cholesterol and blood pressure, lessening the risk of heart disease. It also destroys infection-causing viruses and bacteria.
  3. superfoods

  4. Red and purple foods
Blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, grapes, pomegranates, red cabbage, red peppers, strawberries, and tomatoes. These amazing foods contain antioxidants that fight cancer, reduce blood pressure, and lower bad cholesterol.
  5. Beans and lentils
Beans and lentils, low in fat, calories and sodium but high in dietary fiber, are an excellent source of protein.
  6. Orange foods
Apricots, cantaloupe, carrots, mangos, oranges, persimmons, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and tangerines provide fiber and may control blood pressure and normalize heart function. They protect your vision, encourage a good mood, fight cancer and keep your bones strong.
  7. Green foods
Broccoli, brussel sprouts, green beans, green cabbage, green peppers, edamame, kale, parsley, spinach, and spirulina. Green foods have beneficial effects on cholesterol, blood pressure, immune response and cancer prevention.
  8. Hot peppers – sweet bell or hot chilies
Chilies are high in antioxidant carotenes and flavonoids, and contain about twice the amount of vitamin C found in citrus fruits. Hot peppers aid with digestion, an improved immune system, and better blood circulation and digestion.
  9. Nuts and seeds
Nuts and seeds dramatically decrease your risk of cancer, heart disease and diabetes, and reduce the visible signs of aging like wrinkles and sagging skin.
  10. Sprouts
Sprouts are a “living food” that continues to produce nutrients after being harvested. They are the most enzyme-rich food and they have a higher nutritional content than any other food.
  11. Yogurt and kefir
Probiotic foods are primarily yogurt and kefir. They increased bone strength, lowered cholesterol, create a stronger immune system, and improve digestion.

[Current OWWL Journey] What my vicious inner critic had to say

writingabookAs I shared last week, my vicious little inner critic is slowing me down in getting my book revisions finished so that I can move to publication mode. Wrote my suggestions from my Book Project Manager to dialogue with this VIC (vicious inner critic) and to let you know what I learned.

Here is the dialogue:

Janis:

Dear little inner critic,
What is it that you want me to know? What do you need from me? What do you want for me?
Thank youJanis Pullen

VIC:

You are a beautiful writer and capable of doing this. You just need to listen for what needs to come out and what other people want to know. Don’t be afraid to go into your heart. The people reading your books want to feel you. From there they will trust you.

I need you to be more diligent in scheduling writing time…consistently. This is because you forget in between what your train of thought is and it sounds disjointed. That’s why you’re hard on yourself. You also don’t put enough priority on getting this done. You need to work more solidly and spend enough time to actually finish. Instead of watching TV at night you could be polishing up a chapter. Instead of making it so hard, you could be having it be fun and easy. This book needs to come out sooner, not later. Your fear makes it harder, and I have to work harder to clean things up.

What I want for you is to be happy and delighted with this book and the fact that you had the courage to write it. Happy that you are serving thousands of people with it. Happy that you are doing the work you love. Happy that people who know you love you, trust you, and respect you; they want to help you.Vicious Inner Critic

Janis:

Do you need acknowledgment and gratitude from me, as Bethany Kelly suggested?Janis Pullen

VIC:

I actually need you to acknowledge yourself and be grateful for all your blessings and accomplishments. I need you to celebrate your grand mission in helping others, being the “Breath of Love and Life.” Life is hard enough without you being so hard on yourself. I am not the vicious critic. I am your partner to help you have balance and fulfillment. I want you to be proud of your work.Vicious Inner Critic

Janis (crying):

Thank you.Janis Pullen

[Current O.W.W.L. Journey] Grief and living

beachwalking2Today is a day to reflect. I have been to the Hospice Ward at the local hospital twice. The first was with my friend Nancy who died of lung cancer 10 years ago. As I supported her through her death, she asked herself what she regretted having not done in her life and did she do what she came to do. Because of those questions, after her passing I asked myself those same questions. It was because of Nancy that I changed careers from C.P.A. and Senior Sales Director in Mary Kay to Life and Business Coach, helping people discover their magnificence and being a fierce stand for them getting the results they desire.

The second time I was in Hospice was this week. Our niece is dying of brain cancer, and we have had relatives staying with us who have come to say goodbye. She will leave behind two teenage boys and her husband and so many others who love her, including her parents and grandmother.

I am reminded that life is too short to be miserable and to be off purpose. I am reminded not to sweat the small stuff and that it’s all small stuff. I am reminded that each of us is a special gift to the world. If we remember that, we can give our gifts every day.

All we have is today. The regrets from our past don’t matter. The anxiety for the future doesn’t matter. What matters is our life, our health, and our love.

Wishing you peace, joy, and purpose,

[Success Tip] Are you a half a woman or a woman and a half?

quote___acknowledgementI worked in management with Mary Kay Cosmetics for almost 20 years building a sales force and training them how to create successful entrepreneurial businesses. During that time, my mentor was Mary Kay Ash herself, and I received valuable personal training from her directly. Mary Kay always taught us that a woman trying to succeed without her husband’s support is only half a woman, whereas a woman with her husband’s support can accomplish as much as a woman and a half. (Single women were not included in this because they didn’t have to be concerned about a man affecting their business.)

[Success Tip] Your relationship with a spouse or significant other will either propel you to or deter you from your success.

A spouse or significant other is instrumental in how well your business goes, both in a practical sense and in an emotional one. If your Sweetheart is not supportive, it takes time and physical energy to make everything work with other responsibilities in addition to your career. It drains you emotionally and energetically, sometimes at an unconscious level. It affects your confidence and self-worth. You may even argue, which really sucks the energy out of you.

A supportive spouse can help you feel safe and secure, providing the wing beneath your wings. Even if she/he doesn’t participate in your business, you get more accomplished more quickly when someone helps out around the house or gives you encouragement/acknowledgement.

So what if you and your spouse are not on the same page? I suggest you have a Discovery Session with me to consider coaching as a solution. In addition to the “Awakened Love: Creating Love, Light, and Laughter in Relationships” workshops that I have done with my husband, I coach and train couples to succeed in their weight, money, and relationship endeavors. Email me at Janis@JanisPullen.com for additional information or to schedule your Discovery Session.

Warm wishes for your success,

[O.W.W.L. Success Tip] How additional income streams can enhance your lifestyle

Multiple Streams of IncomeIs this you? Many of us have a career we love or at least it is comfortable and familiar. We don’t want to consider any other options such as part time work or changing jobs, because we just don’t have the time or energy.

O.W.W.L. Success Tip: The key to growing your wealth is to consider options outside of the box.

Additional income streams come in all forms. Not all of them are for everyone. However, even though it’s outside of our comfort zone, I recommend that we never say no to an opportunity until we have investigated the positive and negative consequences of it for ourselves. So many times we are an automatic “no” instead of being curious. That can hold us back in income creation and expansion. I bring this up today because we have an opportunity that you may be waiting for, and it has a deadline.

Do you want to bring in more income? Would you like a part time vocation that had flexible hours and could be done virtually? Do you like to help people? Do you want to start making more money while you are learning a new skill? Do you want to be supported while you learn? If you answered yes to any of these, you must check out the O.W.L. Coach Certification and Training Program. Please be sure to read the testimonials from others who said yes to this opportunity. The early bird savings ends this week, so please don’t wait. Here is the link for all the details including those testimonials: http://www.owlweightloss.com/programs/certificationtrainingprogram/

I look forward to having a private talk with you to discover if this is for you.

Janis loves you into results. She believes in you and does not let you be less than magnificent. The work is deep, and yet she makes it fun. O.W.L is about weight loss and also a way of being. I have not only lost the weight I wanted to lose, I have also learned to make powerful requests, to take a stand for myself, and to celebrate my life.

Cathy, California

The O.W.L. program has changed my life forever. I have never felt such deep love from anyone including myself. Janis is the best at making you realize things about yourself that you never knew were there. She will embrace you with her words and love you for who you are and whatever you bring to share. O.W.L. is a program that will last forever. It goes past the diet to the real reason that you are overweight. If I had not started this program I would be 50lbs heavier or more and sleeping every day, eating things that I do not love. I would be on my way to death at an early age. This program teaches you the importance of taking care of all of you, not just your body, but your mind, your being, and your spirit. Janis is one of the most important persons in my life because she has helped me save my life. I am happier loved by others and I love myself and realize my purpose in life. From my every being I thank Janis for the opportunity for change.
