Weight and self love

[O.W.W.L. Success Tip] Are you a victim of Ontological Sabotage #2?

wom500Statistics actually show that people who lose weight will gain some or all of it back; usually they regain even more! This is true even for people who have had weight loss surgery. For those with too much debt, the same pattern holds. They make significant progress paying off credit cards or other debt and then find their balances creeping up again. It’s frustrating, demoralizing, and disheartening for everyone involved. Physical and financial weight affects all segments of our lives – including relationships and health. Physical & financial weight affects stress levels and stress levels affect our weight and our finances. In this success tip we discuss weight, but it can be applied to all areas on your life or business.

The Secret – Ontological Sabotage Patterns:
Since I train weight loss coaches to build 6-figure businesses, this information comes from our 9-Week Training Intensive, “Become the Ultimate Weight Loss Coach: Unconscious sabotages every coach needs to know so clients can drop the weight forever” and from our “Ontological Weight Loss (O.W.L.) Coach Certification & Training Program”.

Ontology is the study of the whole human being, including beliefs, perspectives, judgments, both unconscious and conscious mindsets, thought processes, and emotional triggers. O.W.L. Weight Loss Signature System identifies nine sabotage patterns in overweight people. Since how we do one thing is how we do everything, these sabotages also emerge in areas of money, relationships, and career. My weight loss clients improve their relationships and their financial/career simultaneously while losing weight because they apply the sabotage shifts to other areas of their lives.

Sabotage patterns usually emerge in multiples of two or three at a time. They may be conscious or subconscious. The nine sabotage patterns can be related to food or movement, or they can be unrelated.

Ontological Sabotage Pattern #2:

A relatable sabotage pattern is a mindset called Sacrifice/Entitlement, also known as Deprivation/Indulgence. The examples here are for weight, but they can be applied to finances and other areas as well:

  • Example 1 – Holidays: We feel entitled and indulge ourselves with food and inactivity, followed by sacrifice/deprivation in January with a rigid diet and exercise program.
  • Example 2 – Diet mentality: We stick to our diet for two weeks with the mindset of sacrifice/deprivation. Then we binge or falls off the program altogether with the mindset of entitlement/indulgence.
  • Example 3 – Skipping meals: We skip breakfast or lunch (sacrifice/deprivation), then eat throughout the evening (entitlement/indulgence).
  • Example 4 – Exercise: We over-exert ourselves one day (sacrifice) and use it as an excuse to skip the next day (entitlement).
  • Example 5 – Hard work day: We have worked hard and been stressed during the day (sacrifice), so we “deserve” to have a few glasses of wine or dessert to compensate (entitlement).

The context for the sacrifice/entitlement sabotage pattern is “all or nothing, either/or.” The mindset is “I deserve this because I did that.” Or the reverse – “Because I did that, I now can’t have that.” All sabotage patterns, whether conscious or subconscious, destroy any chance of long-term, sustained success.

The Transformational Shift:
In our 9-Week Training Intensive, “Become the Ultimate Weight Loss Coach” and our “O.W.L. Coach Certification & Training Program,” coaches will learn all nine sabotage patterns and their corresponding shifts.

Here are tips to shifting Ontological Sabotage #2:

  1. Presence and Awareness – Notice what is happening, and distinguish it as a pattern, not just a random set of behaviors. Simply recognizing the pattern begins our journey to balance and health. Presence and awareness practiced daily helps my clients drop weight without changing anything else.
  2. How you do one thing is how you do everything. When someone starves/binge with food, they usually starve/binge with spending, finances, relationships, and other areas. Distinguishing our sabotage patterns in one area and learning how to transform them benefits other areas simultaneously.

Summary:
In achieving and maintaining optimum weight, we must consider this vital area – Ontological Weight Loss. In distinguishing the Nine Sabotage Patterns and transforming them, not only will our weight drop, but we enjoy benefits in all other areas.

To your success!

Success Story:

I enrolled in the O.W.L. Coach Certification & Training Program because, as a holistic nutritionist, I am already offering the facilitative portion of weight loss (food and movement). I know that the emotional side of weight loss is, I believe, the most important part of the process.

I found it very exciting to experience in the clients I enrolled within the program (one enrolled even before I started the program!) the transformations they saw in their weight and also in other areas of their life. How you do weight is how you do everything! These sabotage patterns really do work in every area of life: money, weight, health, relationships.

[O.W.W.L. Success Tip] Is the Weight of Money weighing you down from higher income?

Weight of Money Breakthrough Program by Janis PullenWant to make more money and keep more of what you make? Did you know that weight is related to money and vice versa? Research shows that women with 30 or more pounds of excess weight may not be earning what they could be. (New York Post, November 7, 2011, “Thin Gals – Fat Pay.”) The reasons cited are less energy, less confidence, not being as image-conscious. The research also shows that perceptions of employees and clients contribute to the lower earnings of overweight women. My work with overweight clients concurs. As they drop weight, my clients become not only more energetic and confident, but they stop hiding out and begin embracing their magnificence, trusting themselves, being more authentic. Their fears decrease, their belief in themselves increases, and they are able to command higher fees/salaries. They start new businesses or expand and succeed in existing ones.

O.W.W.L Success Tip: Just as releasing physical weight increases income, releasing financial weight also increases income.

Just as clients who lose excess weight become more successful and earn more, clients who lift their financial worries do the same. Why? The energetic weight of too much debt, too little savings, or too many bills sucks the life out of us at a deep level. We don’t know what to do, or we struggle and suffer, doing the best we can, sometimes living in denial. We feel guilty or overwhelmed. We feel helpless and alone. This “weight of money” affects our decision-making abilities, our confidence, and our self-worth, just as too much physical weight does.

So the solution is to address the financial issues head on, get to the real causes for financial pressures, not just the superficial ones. A coaching program is ideal for this, but it has to be the right one. I suggest having a money/financial coaching program, such as our “Weight of Money Breakthrough Program,” which addresses both the step-by-step action plan (facilitative) as well as shifting the deeper unconscious sabotages (ontological) in order to transform your relationship with money, earn more, get out of debt, and keep more of what you make.

Please check any financial coaching program you’re considering to be sure it has both the facilitative and ontological components; otherwise, your financial journey will be just like going on a diet and then gaining all the weight back. You don’t want to get a little knowledge, control, and relief of the “weight of money” and then revert back to old habits. You want a permanent change! [O.W.W.L. Success Tip] Are you guilty of Emotional Isolation? It’s a Pernicious Sabotage!

expressOne of the most pernicious and destructive ways you can sabotage your success in any area is called “Emotional Isolation” or “Emotional Detachment.” I see it so often in both my weight loss and my weight of money clients. Why is it so devastating? It actually sabotages the velocity in getting the results you want in any project!

Emotional isolation means that you turn inward with feelings which may be scary. It means you don’t share your deepest self with anyone; you don’t want to become vulnerable. You don’t want to risk looking bad or feeling rejected, so you keep inside the stuff you judge as bad.

Emotional detachment is when you don’t acknowledge or own your feelings at all. You stuff them inward where they rot, rot, rot in the dark!

Emotional isolation and detachment are forms of denial of your humanity and suppress your magnificence just as they suppress your emotions. Your progress is not just about your expertise and training. If you want to really become a powerful, effective person, you will stop emotional isolation and detachment by sharing courageously who you are and how you feel with supportive allies in a safe environment. We do this in all our group programs, such as the O.W.W.L. Coach Certification & Training Program, the Weight of Money Programs, and all of the other Wealth, Weight, and Leadership Group Programs.

In my free teleclass last week, “Become the Ultimate Coach: 3 Secrets to extraordinary profits and results in your weight loss practice,” I discussed one of the 9 ontological weight loss sabotage patterns that overweight people run. Today I’m going to show you how that same sabotage affects our wealth; it’s called Sacrifice/Entitlement. (For the recording of this class, please visit www.JanisPullen.com/ultimatecoach/.)

The mindset of Sacrifice/Entitlement, also known as Deprivation/Indulgence shows up in our wealth like this: It can start with either the sacrifice side or the entitlement side of the sabotage. For instance, if you have gotten yourself into debt or overspending (entitlement/indulgence), you may decide to put yourself on a budget. But if you don’t have a well-constructed plan of action, the budget might be taken to extreme and then becomes sacrifice/deprivation. You can operate within your budget for a while until something happens. Then you “binge” on spending and go back into entitlement/indulgence.

Many times when we go off our budget, or when we don’t have one at all, our spending is a result of this mindset: “What the heck; I spent this much, so what difference will a little more make?” Just like an over eater whose eating spins out of control to a binge, so can purchasing. “I spent too much, so now I’m stressed out, so I’ll buy something else to feel better.”

The sacrifice/entitlement sabotage doesn’t have to be triggered by money-related events. If someone has worked hard and been stressed out during the day (sacrifice), she might believe she “deserves” to buy herself something to compensate (entitlement). Any time people spend because they deserve it, you can bet there is sacrifice/entitlement sabotage at work.

The mindset for the sacrifice/entitlement sabotage pattern is an all-or-nothing, either-or context. The mindset is “I deserve this because I did that.” Or the reverse – “because I did that, I now can’t have that.” The problem, as with all the sabotage patterns, is that they destroy any chance of long-term, sustained wealth growth. To discover how to deal with this sabotage, be sure to listen to the “Become the Ultimate Coach” audio at www.JanisPullen.com/ultimatecoach/. Even though it addresses weight loss, the same principles can be applied to wealth generation.

My Current Weight Loss Journey:
Week 18 – Commitment Begins

Good news! I have taken the first step of commitment for the marathon by agreeing to participate in a 5K walk on November 3. My friend Melinda, who is not convinced she wants to do the walking marathon, did agree to the 5K. It’s a start for me to put my commitment into action.

However, I have some limiting beliefs that are surfacing even as I write this.

The last time I did a 5K race (5 kilometers, which is just over 3 miles) was when I was in my 20’s and came in last. Well, I didn’t really come in last! My husband stayed behind with me and allowed me to cross the finish line before he did, so technically I finished second to last!

If I judged myself based on that, I could say this is crazy! I’m almost 40 years older now and almost 40 pounds heavier now. (I was anorexic before I was obese and am now in the happy middle.) What makes me think I’m going to be able to pull this off without keeling over and passing out?

But I am not going to let my past dictate my future! I have a training plan. I have my buddy Melinda. I am very healthy. And I’m passionate about teaching people to believe in themselves, including myself.

I would love to hear your comments about what you are committed to accomplishing and what steps you are taking to do so. My goal is to take my fitness to the next level. If your goals are to take your income or weight to the next level, be sure to check out the O.W.L Weight Loss programs or the Weight of Money Programs.

For more information or to register, visit www.OWLWeightloss.com and click on the Programs tab at the top.

I welcome you to join us in the 5K Saturday, November 3 in Albuquerque.
